Frequently Asked Questions.

What is involved in the first session?

You will be asked to complete a medical intake form, and Hermina will review with you a consent form for assessment and treatment. Thus, please allocate time for doing this by coming 10-15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. During the assessment, Hermina will take a detailed history of your current condition. She will then perform a thorough physical examination to observe and evaluate your posture, analyze your movement patterns, and determine the root cause of your pain. The assessment is a full hour, but there will always be a treatment component, whether it is hands-on therapy or going through some exercises to get you started.

What do I need to bring or wear?

In order to most effectively assess your mobility, please wear clothing that allows you to move freely. In addition, if it is a lower extremity issue, please bring shorts. If you have issues with running, please bring your running shoes and orthotics if you have any, as this will be included in the assessment of your biomechanics. Likewise, if it is an upper extremity problem, it is advisable for females to wear a sports bra or tank top.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

The duration and frequency of follow-up sessions will be determined during the assessment session and will be re-evaluated throughout the course of treatment, as every person and their specific condition require different treatment plans. Treatment will focus on meeting the individual goals of each client.

Do I need a referral from a physician to see a physiotherapist?

No. Physiotherapists in Ontario are primary healthcare providers, which means that you do not need a physician’s referral to see one. However, please note that some extended health insurance plans may require a physician’s referral for coverage. Thus, if you are planning to use your insurance coverage, please review your individual insurance plan so you may be reimbursed for your sessions.

How will physiotherapy services be covered?

Payment can be made by cash, electronic transfer or credit card. We do not bill private insurance companies directly. Hermina is a registered physiotherapist, and upon payment she will issue you with an official receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
